So, it’s been another month on the app store. We left the previous month with the app being featured in the “What we’re playing” section in various European countries. This had boosted sales in the UK up to the exciting heights of around 200 a day. Worldwide this pushed sales up into the 300s.

I must admit, I was pretty happy with this, I knew that it was never going to last, as soon as the app stopped being featured sales would go down - and as expected the app disappeared out of the featured list after a week or so and sales started to decline pretty quickly in the UK. Fortunately other countries stepped in and kept global sales at a good level.

Around this time I released a new version with a new icon (designed by the great guys at icon design). Take a look at what happened next:

<img style=”cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 315px;” src=”http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jO69rW-vio4/SfDCzzYFW_I/AAAAAAAAB6s/E7viLdcx4Fs/s400/Daily+Sales+Chart+1.gif” border=”0” alt=”“id=”BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327972554399636466” />

Suddenly all the sales up to the 14th April look a bit silly. Finally the app has broken through into the US market - featured in the “New and Noteworthy” section of the US app store. I think this really demonstrates the power of appearing on the front page of the app store and in the featured list of the store on the phone itself.

So, there’s not quite as many charts in this month’s update - mainly because the only really interesting thing that has happened has been the US sales. Here’s a breakdown of sales by country (I’m only showing the top 10 here):

<img style=”cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 275px;” src=”http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_jO69rW-vio4/SfDD7RnK5MI/AAAAAAAAB60/mK2kzxCuqa0/s400/By+Country+Chart+1.gif” border=”0” alt=”“id=”BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327973782286689474” />

I’m sure that this would look different if the app was localised to each country - being only available in English probably limits the appeal.

For those of you who like to know how close I am to buying that yacht and retiring to my own private island:
<table><tr><td>Sales to date:</td><td>14970</td></tr><tr><td>At 99cents per unit</td><td>$14820.30</td></tr><tr><td>Less Apple’s 30% cut</td><td>$10374.21</td></tr><tr><td>USD to GBP (according to google)</td><td>₤7088.15</td></tr><tr><td>After tax of 40%</td><td>₤4252.89</td></tr></table>

Still some ways to go!

As always, if you’ve got any questions or are interested in more details just drop me a message on the support email (sudokugrab@gmail.com). Or just leave a comment on this post.

Now it’s time to get on with the next release. Version 1.5 should be submitted to the app store this weekend/start of next week.

A couple of reviews - Our app has finally been reviewed by a couple of sites, namely 148apps and iPhone App Reviews. Unfortunately, our daily downloads in the US are still low, hovering around 10-20, and the app has moved off the front page of the app store in the UK, causing a significant drop in sales. Stay tuned for a detailed update in a couple of weeks. Appreciate all the support and readership.
Sales stats update - 5 or 6 months on the app store - Apologies for the radio silence on sales stats for our app, but to be fair, there hasn't been much spark! After the US App Store feature, it was a sliding game down the charts, but still, we average about 10-30 copies daily. We excitedly crossed the 25,000 download mark recently. Oh, and there's a chart you can find below with more deets. A Dutch website brought a brief sales soar, but that's died down now. All told, we've clocked in 25591 paid and 8436 free downloads, the latter gaining a brief spotlight during a celebratory two-week freebie phase. Sure seems free is popular! But, I feel content knowing we've lots of, hopefully, pleased customers!
Shoot3D for the iPad/iPhone - I'm thrilled to have introduced my first 3D game on the app store. The entire process served as a real learning curve, with some elements still appearing obscure, yet adding to the intrigue. The games section of the app store is known for its fierce competition, but challenging the status quo by doing something different from the regular utility apps is quite a welcome change. I'm generally proud of how the game has turned out and look forward to its reception. You can download the game on the app store.
iAds Report - In this post, I'm sharing performance stats from a free Heart Rate app which has been live for just over two weeks, and has been downloaded around 40k-50k times worldwide. It was categorized under Entertainment instead of Health and Fitness which may have affected downloads and advertising revenue. It's been relatively successful and was built with iAds and AdMob adverts. Revenue generated from the US was substantial with fill rates at nearly 50% and an amazing eCPM of almost $30, compared to Admob's $2.2. Despite the revenue's rapid decline correlating with downloads, I believe there may be a strong case for ads in apps.
Tanks! Mayhem - available for the iPhone/iPad - Exciting news gamers! Our new app, 'Tanks! Mayhem', has finally hit the app store. We can't wait for you to dive into the tank-battle action and enjoy all the mayhem it has to offer! For a sneak peek, take a look at some of our epic game screenshots included herein.
